World famous acts at V Festival

Posted on August 14, 2009

Britpop giants Oasis and glam-rockers The Killers are set to perform at the V Festival next week.

The immensely popular double header festival, held from August 22 to 23, will be staged at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire.

Organisers shortlisted bands to win a popularity contest that the public had to vote for before two winning musical acts were announced.

“We had to go out and get people to vote,” says history student Owen.

“We went to our old schools and did gigs – the only way people could get in was to vote for us. We were giving something back for the votes. We’ve had so much support, it’s been crazy.”

Chosen are The Last Republic, which will open at the 4Music venue in Stafford on August 22 and in Chelmsford the next day. Underline The Sky, the Ipswich five-piece, are the other winners and the band will play on the alternative days to The Last Republic.

Other big names for the festival include Fatboy Slim, Razorlight, The Specials, Snow Patrol, Keane, Elbow, as well as V Festival newbies such as Pendulum, MGMT, The Ting Tings, and Lady Gaga.

Bob Angus, Festival director, said: “We’re genuinely thrilled to have such an eclectic line-up this year.”

James, Lilly Allen, The Enemy, James Morrison, The Script, Happy Mondays, Biffy Clyro, Paolo Nutini, Katy Perry, The Wombats, The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Seasick Steve, Ocean Colour Scene and The Saturdays will also perform.

Weekend tickets are already sold out some lucky festival goers may find day tickets, priced £73.50.
