Madonna Sticky & Sweet tour grosses $408 million
Madonna has broken her own record for the top-earning solo tour with her last world trek, although concert promoter Live Nation Inc said the Queen of Pop needs to give performances in bigger venues.
The Material Girl’s Sticky & Sweet world tour has earned $408 million after 85 shows in front of more than 3.5 million fans.
She had set the previous record in 2006 with the 60-concert Confessions tour, which had grossed $194 million in front of 1.2 million fans. Live Nation said the previous tour was mostly featured in arenas, while the latest one had the pop star performing in bigger stadiums.
Madonna signed a 10-year, $120 million “360″ agreement with international promoter Live Nation in 2007 which covered recording, touring and merchandising.
The top-earning tour overall was the Rolling Stones’ 2005-2007 Bigger Bang series of 144 gigs, which drew 4.7 million people and had earned the iconic group $558 million.
Meanwhile, speculations surrounding her relationship with her new boyfriend Jesus Luz Madonna had said that she might be viewing the young man as more than a mere toy-boy. The Queen of Pop is scheduled to fly to Brazil in a bid to introduce herself to her beau’s parents. Madonna is apparently weaker than expected in the affair since Jesus has benefited from a strong Catholic upbringing and wants to be taken seriously and marry the pop star. Madonna said during an interview with legendary US TV host David Letterman last month that she would never marry again.
In other news, Madonna is set to return in front of the camera as her services have been retained by fashion power-house Dolce & Gabbana. She is scheduled to appear in the company’s spring/summer 2010 campaign.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said that to have the 51-year-old mega star is a dream come true.
D&G had already worked with Madonna on her ‘The Girlie Show’ tour in 1993 and last year’s ‘Sticky & Sweet’ tour as costumes designers.
