Dunsfold airshow features flying star
The world’s only Avro Vulcan B2 V-bomber capable of flying will be one of many aeronautical performances to be witnessed at this years Dunsfold Wings and Wheels airshow.
The iconic aircraft will be one of the key attractions; subject to final tests and safety clearances, the grand lady of the sky will be given a go in the four-hour flying display, said the show organisers.
After more than ten years of comprehensive restoration, thanks to the Vulcan to the Sky Trust, the delta-wing bomber was the last of its kind to serve in the Royal Air Force and is now airworthy once more.
Designed by Roy Chadwick, the Avro Vulcan was the only V-bomber to partake in operational bombing sorties during the Falklands campaign in 1982.
“The Vulcan is an iconic piece of aviation history and it’s a privilege to be able to bring this magnificent flying machine to Wings and Wheels” said event promoter Jamie McAllister.
“A whole new generation will be able to witness this incredible feat of engineering as it soars over the skies of Dunsfold Aerodrome.” He added.
More than £7m has been raised by The Vulcan to the Sky Trust in order to restore and return the Vulcan to the skies.
So far, more than 25,000 people around the world have participated to the fund.
Promoters of the event are raising money for charities, namely: the Brooklands Museum Trust Limited, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, the Cranleigh Village Hospital Trust and Help for Heroes.
Wings and Wheels will be performed at Dunsfold Aerodrome on Sunday, August 30.
