30,000 black and white TV sets still out there
Nearly 30,000 people across Britain still watch their favourite shows on black and white TVs.
The number was revealed by TV Licensing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the debut transmissions in colour for BBC1 and ITV.
The black and white TV licence holders number at 28,000 black and white, including 1,950 in Scotland.
The data demonstrates the black and white TVs have yet to be consigned to history despite the increasing popularity of flat-screen LCD versions and the iPlayer.
Despite the numbers prove that the oldest equipment is till breathing life, recent BBC figures point to emerging technologies as a way for people adopt new ways.
The BBC iPlayer pulled in excess of one million unique users a day in September. These vierwers watched a total of 60.8 million TV shows all accessed via the internet and using computers, games consoles and smart phones plus television sets sporting the Virgin Media set-top boxes.
But even with a large array of watching styles, kicking back and enjoying a few programmes in front of an actual TV set still proves to be the most popular. Sales of LCD sets have practically tripled in the last 36 months.
According to TV Licensing official Fergus Reid this data proves TV has never been so popular thanks to a wider offer of ways to appreciate the pastime.
